Three Iconic Design Pieces from Al Ula

The seventh edition of Marbella Design was presented as a showcase of creativity where art, functionality and design were present. This year, Al-Ula, the conceptual space designed by our interior design studio, redefines the border between interior design and sculpture, transforming furniture design into iconic pieces. In this space, three iconic design pieces created by the interior designer can be highlighted: a pedestal sink in Solid Surface, a main bar that reinvents the geometric carvings of the Lihyan Tomb and a spectacular bench with Arabic touches conceived as a tribute to geometric purity.

The Pedestal Washbasin: A Functional Sculpture in Honor of Totems

The Al Ula space is divided into three different rooms, one of them is a toilet and it contains the first of the three iconic design pieces that we are going to talk about: the pedestal sink. Inspired by totems, this work represents the connection between the human and the elemental. The choice of material, Solid Surface, it is no coincidence: its versatility and texture allow the piece to create a sensation of solidity and unique elegance.

The design has several features that make it different. Its vertical lines are carefully designed to make a play of vertical and horizontal lines giving movement to this piece, while its matte finish transmits calm and relaxation.

The Main Bar: A reinterpretation of the Lonely Castle

The epicenter of Al-Ula is located in the main room, dominated by a bar that is not simply a piece of furniture, but a tribute to the history of the ancient ruins from which this space is inspired. Inspired by the Lihyan Tomb, also called “The Lonely Castle”, Antonio Calzado has managed to reinterpret the geometric carvings and imposing rock formations in a design that fuses strength and elegance.

The structure, created with precise lines, is a reinterpretation of the upper part of this monument, considered the most emblematic of the Al Ula ruins.

La Banqueta: The most spectacular of Al Ula's iconic design pieces

Every detail of this piece has been carefully thought out and executed. From the structure, designed to be light but resistant and comfortable, to the textile, designed and digitally printed under the supervision of the interior designer himself. The geometric print of the fabric is reminiscent of the patterns and carvings that we can find in the rock formations of Al Ula, but reinterpreted with a contemporary approach.

This is the third of Al Ula's iconic design pieces and is the protagonist of the completely circular room because it has been conceived to be viewed as a work of art.

Al-Ula: A Space, an Experience

With the exclusivity and creativity of his designs, Antonio Calzado proves to be not just an interior designer; He is a storyteller who uses furniture as a means to tell stories. Al-Ula is not simply a space to admire, but an experience that invites visitors to reflect on the link between the past and the present, between the monumental and the everyday.

In Antonio Calzado Studio, we take care of every detail of our projects, from the complete development of the project concept to the design of unique pieces that give life to the spaces we create.
